The 2008 NDNYC Bookstore Basketball tournament was a huge success!

On June 7, over 60 fans and players braved the 100 degree temperatures and came out to support the annual event, which benefited the Coaches vs. Cancer Foundation. The day kicked off at 10 am at Gutenberg Park in Hells Kitchen, with players hailing from all over the state, and as far as Boston and Indianapolis. Each team played four games leading into the semifinals and finals, which came down to The Rudys and The Barbarians. The Rudys fought hard, despite being down one man due to injury, but The Barbarians prevailed, capturing the 2008 Bookstore Basketball title and $175 worth of gift certificates to local restaurants.

Prizes were also raffled at the end of the day and awarded for the best team name and the second place team. They included gift cards to Mustang Harry's and Sally's, PJ Clarke's, a personalized Mike Brey autographed ball, and various Notre Dame apparel.

After the final game, fans and players hung around for pizza and free tournament t-shirts, and then headed up the block to Coppersmiths Bar for some cold drink specials and air conditioning!

Thanks to all who supported this event--we raised nearly $2,300--and hope to see you next year!

One of the great summer traditions is the bar-b-que. Although it has been held in different locations, this rooftop space was one of the most elegant, with lots of room and great views.
