Hello, and Happy New Year!
New coach, new year! As we move into 2010 and welcome Coach Kelly to the ND family, we have some exciting local events coming up, including a concert at Carnegie Hall from the ND Concert Band in May and a game against Army at our very own Yankee Stadium in November! Friendly Sons of St. Patrick:
The University of Notre Dame and The Notre Dame Club of New York have a long standing relationship with the Irish community. In New York, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick is one organization that supports that community, maintains strong ties with the Catholic Church, and has many Notre Dame alumni amongst its ranks. The members-only Society dates back over 200 years to 1784, and is one of New York's most well known charitable entities. With its annual 1500+ person black-tie St. Patrick's dinner each year, which has had many U.S. Presidents, dignitaries, and even Lou Holtz as its keynote speaker, the Society raises considerable dollars for worthy charitable causes each year. Mercy Center - Saturday Reading Enrichment Program
The University has experienced an outpouring of interest about assisting the earthquake victims of Haiti, and Notre Dame’s Haiti Program. The most important immediate contribution is to support those agencies who are at this moment delivering medical care and basic needs such as food, shelter and clothing. Among them are:
Many have specifically asked about supporting the Notre Dame Haiti Program, directed by Father Tom Streit, C.S.C., which works in conjunction with Hôpital Sainte-Croix to eradicate lymphatic filariasis, often called elephantiasis. Should you wish to help the Haiti Program rebuild, you may make a gift by calling 574-631-9385 or using the online donation feature “Make a Gift Link” at supporting.nd.edu, designation: Earthquake-Haiti Program. In addition to the Haiti Program, the Congregation of Holy Cross has a strong presence in Haiti, and the destruction has had a devastating impact on their work. If you wish to support the Congregation, please send donations in care of Holy Cross Mission Center, P.O. Box 543, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
Superbowl Party @ Hudson Terrace:
Looking for a good Superbowl Party? NFL Superstars and Notre Dame alums Justin Tuck of the NY Giants and Ryan Grant of the Green Bay Packers are hosting a special game watch at Hudson Terrace on Sunday, February 7th from 6:00 PM to Midnight. Tickets are $150 each top shelf open bar and stationed appetizer buffet. A portion of the proceeds will benefit R.U.S.H for Literacy and the Red Cross for Haiti relief efforts. Winter Restaurant Week:
NDNY Women Connect is organizing various lunch and dinner gatherings during Restaurant Week, which runs from January 25th to February 7th.
